New Books for Spring!

Our book for May is Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver. I read this in the Spring two years ago and it is the PERFECT Spring book in my humble opinion. We'll be discussing it at our meeting May 21.

For our June 18 meeting, we're reading When the Emperor Was Divine, which was selected for the Vermont Reads program this year. One of our esteemed book club members (Jess!) works for the VT Humanities Council, so we can all get this book for free (!!!) The catch is that you have to claim your copy! Mua ha haa! Jess is going to hand them out at the May meeting.

On to July! We're reading American Pastoral by Philip Roth. We have it on the excellent authority of Emily that it's a good one. That meeting is July 16, which is fun, since Emily will be back from her studies in the Netherlands to join in!!

Which brings me to the ups and downs...we had a surprise visit from Book Club heroine Annie last night, which was ridiculously fun. We also bid our fond farewells to Emily, who's leaving to study design in the Netherlands, which is outlandishly cool, but we'll miss her. She's opening an art exhibition with Georgia at Fort Can on Saturday. Stop by for an art fix!

SO! Long ol' post, but that's the latest and greatest. See you in May!

  1. Wow, good job Amy I am super impressed with the updates here! 1 note is that Emperor will have to be a loan book to the group, so I will make sure they are available at the May meeting but I'll need to hand them back in to the council after that (and sadly I won't be at the meeting due to a wedding in a land far far away) BUT I am still reading the book because I need a serious dose of spring!

2nd note is if you follow this link you will read a funny blurb on vpr from my director at the council- http://www.vpr.net/episode/45894/
what could be more appropriate for book club ;o) cheers!
