Books for December - March!

Book Club is off to a great start! We've chosen books for the next few months. Our next meeting is Monday, December 7th at 7:00 chez moi.

Here they are the books for December - March. Each book listed will be DISCUSSED at the meeting... so (for example) we're discussing "Flash Fiction" in December.

December 7th: Flash Fiction

January 4th: The Land of Green Plums by Herta Müller

February 1st: Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

March 1st: The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger

I will now plug some places to get books...

This website is awesome... the books are cheap-ola, shipping is free, and the $$ you spend goes towards good causes, but it takes like 14 days to get your books, so plan ahead or be sad.

Here is the website for the new bookstore in Waterbury. I love this place!

This is the ever-wonderful Bear Pond Books in ol' Mont-p, just to name ONE of Montpelier's booksellers, and as Amy mentioned, there's Barre Books, which doesn't have a website.

Great to see you all! I'm looking forward to getting together next week! Got to run, as the puppy is chewing everything visible! Here's a picture of Hudson, who you'll get to meet next week!

Book Clubbers! Every time I sit down, I read every scrap of paper within four feet... it's a sure sign that it's reading season.

Look for the Book Club email, and let me know when you'd like to get back on the reading wagon.

Legendary pot lucks, ahoy!

Hi Book Clubbers! Sooooo our meeting for "Prodigal Summer" is pushed back a week. The meeting is now set for Thursday, May 28 at 6:30 chez moi.

Sorry for the last-minute re-schedule. I was a little behind the ball on this one.

Hope you can make it next Thursday!!

New Books for Spring!

Our book for May is Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver. I read this in the Spring two years ago and it is the PERFECT Spring book in my humble opinion. We'll be discussing it at our meeting May 21.

For our June 18 meeting, we're reading When the Emperor Was Divine, which was selected for the Vermont Reads program this year. One of our esteemed book club members (Jess!) works for the VT Humanities Council, so we can all get this book for free (!!!) The catch is that you have to claim your copy! Mua ha haa! Jess is going to hand them out at the May meeting.

On to July! We're reading American Pastoral by Philip Roth. We have it on the excellent authority of Emily that it's a good one. That meeting is July 16, which is fun, since Emily will be back from her studies in the Netherlands to join in!!

Which brings me to the ups and downs...we had a surprise visit from Book Club heroine Annie last night, which was ridiculously fun. We also bid our fond farewells to Emily, who's leaving to study design in the Netherlands, which is outlandishly cool, but we'll miss her. She's opening an art exhibition with Georgia at Fort Can on Saturday. Stop by for an art fix!

SO! Long ol' post, but that's the latest and greatest. See you in May!

My, my. Look how fancy we're getting.

That's right, book clubbers, our blog now has embedded images of the books we're reading. And, prepare to be amazed....here is a link to Sara Gruen's website. Ta Daaaaa!

So! The meeting is Thursday, April 16 at 6:30. If you want to host a meeting, let me know, otherwise it's the ol' stompin grounds.

Happy reading! See you in a couplea weeks.

House of the Spirits

Hellooo!

So! Here are the vital statistics for our next meeting! It's going to be....

Thursday, March 19 (that's next Thursday) at 6:30 chez moi.

We're reading "House of the Spirits" by Isabel Allende.

I am only a little ways into the book, but I can't stop thinking about it! The language and imagery is really unique and imaginative. I hope I can make it through the book before the meeting! ee!

On a side note, one of our unofficial members, Acer B. Thompson, celebrated his 1st birthday this past week. He is getting to be quite the geezer. He's shown here with his Aunt Suzy.

Hope all of you are well! See you soon!

We're reading "A Mercy" and by our current schedule, would meet on Monday the 16th (in 2 days!) Does that still work for you guys? Want to push it back a week?

Post back and lemme know. I'll send an email out too!

Relishing Reading

Hello everyone!

I thought a blog might be kinda fun and I thought it would help us keep in touch as some of our beloved members move on to exciting yet far-flung life pursuits.

So! Share whatever you'd like...thoughts on the reading, recipes for CAKE (!), ideas for books to read, links to reviews, whatever strikes your fancy.

To kick things off, I'll post our next three book selections...

February: A Mercy by Toni Morrison

March: The House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende

April: Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen

We talked tonight about moving book club from Mondays to Thursdays. Does Thursday work better for people? There's a poll below this post where you can vote your preference.

Til next we talk, write, or blog...
